What a briliant year for Irish sport. We have some remarkable atheltes.

2016 may have been fairly crap for the most part, but in a strictly sporting sense, it provided us with some fantastic memories. Gaelic football fans were treated to an unbeaten Dublin side that took their place among the great teams of the past, and there were also some memorable moments for the footballers of Tipperary, Galway, Tyrone, Kerry and the beaten finalists, Mayo.

In the bid to win the Liam MacCarthy Cup, it’s the Premier County that reign supreme after they ended Kilkenny’s recent dominance while Waterford and Galway also had strong seasons.

In rugby, Ireland managed to get a win on South African soil before famously ending their New Zealand hoodoo in Chicago. All this without even mentioning the Olympics, McGregor’s dual titles,, horse racing, boxing and a remarkable season of soccer, both domestically with Dundlak’s remarkable season, and internationally at Euro 2016.

What did the Irish sporting public engage with the most on Twitter? Here are the most tweeted about sporting moments from 2016
