Here’s the cheapest way to get to Poland for Ireland’s final qualifying match

Make or break

Paul Moore

We’ve crunched the numbers.

Valeri Qazaishvili won’t be having any streets or buildings named after him in Ireland, but football fans owe the Georgian a huge debt of gratitude after his 37th minute goal in Tbilisi blew Group D wide open.

Two wins for the boys in green over Gibraltar and Georgia have breathed new life into our campaign as Ireland’s fate is back in their own hands with crucial games against Germany and Poland on the horizon.

Take a look at the group permutations here, but one thing’s for sure, Ireland will have something to play for when they meet Poland in the Stadion Narodowy, Warsaw on October 11.

With this in mind, we’ve decided to take a look at some of the best ways to get to Warsaw.

We’ve included direct flights to the city itself, along with some of the other cities that are within a commutable distance of the Polish capital.

Direct flights to Warsaw

As always, you’ll be paying more when travelling to see the boys in green as the economic principle of supply and demand comes into effect.

Using Skyscanner, here are the cheapest flights from Dublin to Warsaw, departing on the 8 October and returning the day after the match, the 12 October (Thursday – Monday).

Alternatively, you might plan on flying out closer to the day of the game. Friday is a tad bit more expensive than Saturday 10 October, so here are what the prices look like on the Saturday.

We’re all about saving you some money!

Here are the options if you’re flying from Dublin to Warsaw.

Cities that you can fly to that are near Warsaw

Feel free to take whatever route to Warsaw that suits you best, but having looked at flights to the nearby Polish cities of Poznan and Lodz, they were too expensive for my own budget.

Gdansk is the nearest commutable city that’s cheap, the city is a great place to spend some time because I was privy to seeing Ireland v Spain in Euro 2012 here.

This is how expensive flights are to Gdansk according to a quick Google search.

Gdansk Ireland

Flying out October 9 and returning on the 12? That Ryanair option looks very decent in my view. The train journey from Gdansk to Warsaw is about 3 hours and will cost you between €15 to €25.

That should leave you with plenty of spare cash and give you some time for a few drinks.

Alternatively, you can fly to Wroclaw for a fairly reasonable price also. The train journey to Warsaw takes about 3 and a half hours.

You always have the option of hiring a car and driving to the Polish capital too.

Berlin was an incredibly popular starting point for Irish fans during the Euro 2012 campaign and here’s how much flights to the party-mad city are.
