HOUSE OF RUGBY: Sexton and O’Connell on rugby’s greatest player now, and ever

Patrick McCarry

“I think Dupont is going to be the best player of all time.”

There was a 2:1 Munster to Leinster split on the House of Rugby panel, this week, but we simply had to start with Connacht ending Ulster’s title dreams. Paul O’Connell and Johnny Sexton also weighed in on rugby’s best player now, and ever.

The Westerners are the most recent province, aside from Leinster, to claim some silverware but they are often dismissed as also-rans or plucky underdogs. Tell that to Ulster, who they utterly outgunned at Kingspan Stadium to set up a United Rugby Championship semi-final with Stormers, the reigning champs.

Greg O’Shea and Jason Hennessy were fired up after Munster went to Glasgow to do a number on the Warriors. O’Shea even went so far as to make a bold claim during the show – he will sing ‘The Isle’ on next week’s show if Munster rip up the form book and beat Leinster!

Lindsay Peat, meanwhile, is working on his forfeit if Leinster get the job done over their old rivals, on Saturday. “We’re going to go balls out and remind you who’s top dog in this country,” she declared.

All that is covered [LISTEN below] as well as some AIL, women’s rugby and Ulster chat, and we hear from legends Johnny Sexton and Paul O’Connell.
