Hard to disagree

Anyone who saw the recent semi-final meeting of Tipperary and Galway will find it hard to argue against the levels of skill, excitement and drama that’s involved in a good game of hurling and it seems that the Lonely Planet agree.

The prestigious publication has just ranked attending a game at Croker as one of their top 10 sporting destinations that people must see.

It seems that a decent ‘clash of the ash’ is ranked alongside watching a New York Knicks Garden game in Madison Square or watching Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires.

Speaking about the sport, the publication said ““Hurling — a fast-moving, physically demanding game — is best watched in the national stadium, with the semi-finals and final of the All-Ireland hurling championships played here in August and September.

“Make sure you fit in by learning the local terminology: hurley for the wooden stick the players use to hit the sliotar, the baseball-like ball which is thwacked towards the opponents’ goal”,

The publication also advice people to have a few pints before kick-off but to refrain from showing up to Croker wearing a soccer or rugby jersey. Decent advice.
