Incredible graphic shows Gaelic Football shooting accuracy from all areas of the field since 2011

Hats off to Rob Carroll (@gaelicstats) for the phenomenal work he's put into this.

Hats off to Rob Carroll (@gaelicstats) for the phenomenal work he’s put into this.

While we are still a bit behind the tremendous statistical analysis that is prevelant in baseball, basketball and increasingly soccer, the world of GAA was presented with a beautiful bit of work today by one of the best Twitter accounts for GAA fans.

Rob Carroll’s @gaelicstats account provides touch maps, heat maps and all sorts of statistical analysis from the summer’s biggest games and it really offers superb insights into the game. Seriously, just give him a follow, you won’t be sorry.

Anyway, today Rob produced what might just be the best GAA graphic we’ve ever seen. After what Rob says was ‘hours and hours’ of work, he has compiled all the shots taken in Gaelic Football since 2011 into one graphic.

Over 9,000 shots have been taken in that time and the accuracy rates from each precise sector of the pitch is both stunning and hugely informative.

Covering both frees and shots from play, the graphic is fascinating reading for any fan, and we suspect some inter-county managers too.
