Republic of Ireland have two crucial games left in their bid to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and the odds of reaching the tournament are pretty slim.
Even if they beat Moldova and Wales in their remaining group games, they are still not guaranteed a spot in the playoffs as one of the best second place teams. Even if they manage to scrape into the playoffs there is still the small matter of well, the playoffs to get through before booking the plane tickets to the big show.
To say that the Boys In Green still have it all to do would be the understatement of the century, but still, the FAI have backed Martin O'Neill to lead them into qualification for the next major tournament. They have announced on social media that his contract has been extended and he will continue in the position until qualification for Euro 2020.
