What a night…
The Irish football team travel to Cardiff tonight for the opening game in the Nations League.
The team is going in circumstances that can only be described as not ideal, but sure we’ll give it a go either way.
But the last time we were there was very different.
We needed to win to book our place in the World Cup playoffs.
And that we bloody did.
James McClean scored a gorgeous goal on his right foot following a great cross and a genius stepover.
We’ve already told you who scored the goal, but we won’t be telling you the other two players who were instrumental in the goal.
Despite the fact that it’s a little bit upsetting to realise that two of those three players will not be playing tonight, we won’t lose hope just yet.
For now we’re just going to think about how brilliant that night was, and ignore the fact that we were battered in the playoffs against Denmark, and that we didn’t make it to the World Cup in the end…
Ah well.
But anyway, that doesn’t take away from how great that night was.
How well do you remember it though?
You have two minutes to name the starting 11 from that night in Cardiff.
Good luck.
