WATCH: Irish fans created a serious atmosphere in pubs in Cardiff last night

Fingers crossed they’re in as good form after the big game tonight.

After our World Cup hopes seemed in tatters following the disappointing defeat to Serbia at the Aviva Stadium, Martin O’Neill’s side take on Wales tonight knowing exactly what they have to do to stand a chance.

The equation is simple: no less than three points are required if the Boys in Green want to keep their qualification prospects alive; a play-off place is guaranteed if we win, while a shock Serbian defeat to Georgia could even result in us ending up as winners of Group D.

As you’d expect, a large travelling contingent have made their way to Cardiff to cheer on the Boys in Green and they were in fine voice in hostelries around the Welsh capital on Sunday night.

This was the scene in O’Neill’s, where JOE reader Gary Naughton captured a roaring rendition of ‘Shane Long’s on fire’, which, although a bit far from the truth given his current goal drought, will hopefully be an appropriate number to belt out again tonight.

In the Brew House, meanwhile, Scotland’s failure to defeat Slovenia (which helped maintain Ireland’s play-off hopes) was greeted with much rejoicing… and a fair few expletives, with JOE reader Paul Daly providing the footage.

We’ll need the fans in good voice at the Cardiff City Stadium again tonight and with any luck, by the end of proceedings, the dream of Russia 2018 will still be alive.

Cheers to Gary Naughton and Paul Daly for sending these our way. If you have something you would like to share with us, send it to [email protected] or hit us up on Facebook or Twitter.
