Is Torquay United’s mascot the worst in football?

Calling your own fans a "bunch of c***s" is probably not going to do wonders for your future career prospects.

Calling your own fans a “bunch of c***s” is probably not going to do wonders for your future career prospects.

Torquay United’s mascot Gilbert the Gull is in hot water after a confrontation with his own fans during the recent defeat to Grimsby Town.

Steve Jegat, the man inside the costume, denies offering to fight fans after hearing a cheeky comment from the crowd.

However, many supporters have complained on the club’s website, with a review set to take place.

“After Grimsby scored their third, Gilbert came over and said ‘where’s the drummer?’ We thought he was joking but then he called us ‘a bunch of c***s,'” said one fan.

“After the game he came over and gave the ‘come on, then’ body language towards us. We have the worst mascot in football.”
