James McClean really does love dealing with online trolls from Sunderland

Paul Moore

Sunderland v West Brom should be interesting next year.

Twitter is great. Prior to the advent of social media, footballers just dealt with criticism from the public in the routine way. Shrug it off, privately curse the haters and show up for work the next day while acting like nothing ever happened.

Thank god for James McClean because the former Derry City winger is endlessly entertaining with his tweets.

His recent feud with Sunderland defender Lamine Koné seems to have died down after some pretty interesting back-and-forth between the pair on Twitter and Instagram.

The people of Sunderland are a little less forgiving though after McClean was the target of some abusive messages from online trolls.

Never one to miss an opportunity, the former Sunderland winger reminded them of the ‘special’ place that he’ll always have in the hearts of Mackems fans.

€10 bet that they build a statue of McClean at the Stadium of Light after this tweet. After all, he did win their Young Player of the Year for 2011/2012.

Well played James, well played.
