Jason Collins is set to join the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday night and become the first openly gay player in action in the NBA.

The 35-year-old has been without a team since last April, when he came out in a Sports Illustrated article by writing: “I’m a 34-year-old NBA center. I’m black. And I’m gay.”

However, that is all set to change when he links up with the Nets in time for Sunday’s clash with the LA Lakers at Staples Center.

Collins is expected to sign a contract for ten days and be in uniform for tonight’s game.

His signing was prompted by the decision of Glen “Big Baby” Davis to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers were reported to have also been interested in Collins if they were unable to sign Davis.
