JOE’s Hero of the Week – brought to you by Carling: Australian footballer Mark Bresciano

JOE

This is definitely one of our favourite images from the World Cup so far…

The World Cup has once again proven that it is the greatest show in the world and here at JOE HQ, we’ve been glued to the TV ever since it started.

It’s been so hard to choose our hero of the week but one moment stood out for all of us. Despite the amazing goals and heroic performances on the pitch, we feel that Australian midfielder Mark Bresciano deserves the honour of JOE’s hero of the week.

We reckon that this photo of the 34-year-old tying the shoe laces of a young mascot on crutches will become one of the defining images from Brazil. Sure, we all know that the Socceroos are unlikely to qualify out of a group that includes Spain, Chile and the Netherlands, but Bresciano’s small gesture is a lovely reminder of why the World Cup is just so powerful.

Brazil 2014 has exceeded our expectations and long may this continue. So far we have seen brilliant goals, red cards, gorgeous women, last minute drama, pundits dropping the F-bomb, pundits going silent and and now this lovely gesture… just don’t mention the snoozefest that was Iran v Nigeria, OK?
