The Mullingar man is set to make his Irish professional debut on 15 November

A few days ago we brought you the news that Matthew Macklin’s re-arranged bout with Jorge Sebastian Heiland will take place in Dublin’s 3 Arena.

The fight was originally scheduled to take place in August but had to be postponed after the Tipperary Tornado’s coach, Jamie Moore, was attacked and shot in Marbella.

Macklin’s promoter Eddie Hearn was in the 3 Arena today to announce further details of the undercard and there are a few tasty fights in store.

The 6,000 boxing fans in attendance will witness Mullingar’s Olympic silver medallist John Joe Nevin making his Irish pro debut while Patrick Hyland will take on John Simpson.

Nevin won his debut fight as a professional against Costa Rican Alberto Candelaria by unanimous decision and the upcoming fight will be the first time that he steps back into the ring after having his legs broken in a vicious assault.

Hearn also revealed that Matchroom are in negotiations Golden Boy promotions about adding Donegal’s three time European gold medalist Jason Quigley to the card.

As for some of the other fights already announced on the card, the meeting of long time rivals Spike O’Sullivan and Anthony Fitzgerald is definitely shaping up to be one of the most interesting fights of the night.

The Dubliner has turned up the heat ahead of their bout by saying that O’Sullivan’s absence from the press conference was because “he left his balls in Cork”.

The weeks in the build-up to this Fight Night will be very interesting indeed.
