Just A Day by Feeder turned 14 this month and we love it for one very special reason

What a tune

Colm Boohig

“Looks like the big toe area.”

The song on its own is one of JOE’s favourite tunes, but it is extra special because of its use in one extraordinary sporting montage.

Just A Day was released at the end of 2001 and resonates especially as it was the last song involving the band’s drummer, Jon Lee, who would die shortly afterwards.

The track proved an instant hit upon release, and half a year later the clever folk at RTÉ used it as the tune to play over their highlights package of the 2002 World Cup.

There is something incredibly emotional about this clip. It manages to capture the excitement, ecstasy and the heartbreak that every World Cup conjures among fans around the world.

If memory serves, this used to be played in the wee hours of the morning by RTÉ and can subsequently be heard at many a house party in the intervening years, if the medium is available.

This is a crowd-pleaser, made all the better by Jim Beglin’s ridiculous comment concerning Alessandro Nesta’s injured toe.

Get ready to receive a nostalgia overdose with one of RTÉ’s finest ever moments.
