Ireland’s Ken Doherty will be appearing his 19th World Championships in Sheffield.
The Dubliner recorded a 10-5 win over Thailand’s Dechawat Poomjaeng in his final qualifier to eradicate memories of last year, when he lost a final frame decider to Matthew Selt.
The 44-year-old is now ranked number 28 in the world and will be hoping to emulate in 1997 win on the biggest snooker stage of them all.
“When you’ve had success at the Crucible you know what it means,” Doherty said. “You want to be part of the tournament and not sitting on the couch talking about it. That’s all right when you’re not in the tournament.
“Getting through means so much. I’m over the moon.”
