PIC: Kevin Long’s Wikipedia page updated with excellent, soon-to-be deleted bag of cans reference

A big day for the Cork man and his Wikipedia page.

Conor Heneghan

Sadly, we can’t see this remaining in existence for too long.

Kevin Long made his first competitive start for Ireland against Austria at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday evening.

While in-the-know Irish fans would know who Long is from his time at Cork City and various spells on loan during his time at Burnley, some casual supporters would have headed straight to Wikipedia to find out more about the man starting for Ireland at the back.

And what a feast of information, albeit slightly dubious, awaited them when they got there.

Although references to his regular appearances in the Voodoo Rooms in Cork and the “pure daycent” starting XI against Austria appeared to be quickly deleted…

… At the time of writing, a line about the promise of a bag of cans if he helps Ireland to three points against Austria still remains…

In the inevitable event that it will quickly disappear, however, here’s how it looked in black and white.

That’s the sort of incentive that would drive any man to win a game, but unfortunately for the Boys in Green, Ireland couldn’t get it done as a frustrating encounter finished 1-1 in Dublin.

Bags of cans for all next time around.
