The margin of victory was just two points but the Cats were denied a clear penalty late in the game.

Kilkenny won 2-13 to 0-17 in turbulent conditions at Headquarters, but the margin of victory could have been far greater had Donal O'Grady's foul on Richie Power been punished with a penalty rather than a free.   In the end, however, it didn't matter and goals from Richie Power and Eoin Larkin made the difference for Brian Cody's side.
