Is it a chip on the shoulder or does he speak true? A former team-mate of Lance Armstrong has claimed he saw the star inject performance-enhancing drugs to cheat in pro races like the Tour de France.

Since the 90s the world of cycling has been embroiled in doping scandals and this latest revelation by Tyler Hamilton, a former member of the US Postal Service team, is sure to have repercussions.

Hamilton said in an interview that he saw Armstrong use the banned substance EPO, a drug that aids the growth of red blood cells, prior to winning his first Tour de France in 1999.

“I saw [EPO] in his refrigerator…I saw him inject it more than one time like we all did, like I did many, many times,” Hamilton says in the 60 Minutes interview on CBS.

Armstrong, the seven-time Tour de France champion, has denied taking banned substances via his Twitter account.

“20+ year career. 500 drug controls worldwide, in and out of competition. Never a failed test. I rest my case,” Armstrong tweeted.

Hamilton’s interview is part of a six-month investigation by 60 Minutes into doping on the cycling circuit and focuses on whether Armstrong used banned substances or not.

JOE.ie’s Health and Fitness columnist Johnny O’Connor has been telling us the truth about performance-enhancing drugs this week.
