LeBron James could leave Miami Heat after deciding to become a free agent from next week onwards.

ESPN are reporting that James has opted out of the last two years of his Heat contract, having won his first two NBA titles with the side in 2012 and 2013, although Miami will still be hopeful of tying him down to a new deal.

The 29-year-old had been set to earn $20m next season alone, with certain commentators stating that he is merely playing hard to get in an effort to boost his earnings.

Following the Heat’s defeat to San Antonio in this year’s Finals series James said he wanted time with his family while considering his future.

He was last a free agent in 2010 when he left Cleveland, having spent the first seven years of his NBA career with his home state team.
