Welsh full-back Leigh Halfpenny was the stand-out performer of the victorious Lions tour to Australia and the kicking sensation has generously decided to donate his prize money to charity.

Arguably the deadliest kicker in world rugby at the minute, the Cardiff Blues man was instrumental in the tourists’ series victory Down Under with 114 points to his name and was deservedly crowned the player of the series.

That accolade came with a prize fund of 3,000 Australian dollars, just over €2,000 and Halfpenny has pledged the winnings to the Kidney Wales Foundation.

“I was honoured to be made a Patron of Kidney Wales in my early international playing days. The Charity does great work and I have visited the Children’s Kidney Centre  to see firsthand the children waiting for a transplant and on dialysis,” he told Wales Online.

“I was honoured to be made player of the series and received funds to give to my chosen charity – the Kidney Wales Foundation is my chosen charity.”

A top player, a top man.
