LISTEN: Off The Ball’s montage of Ireland’s Euro 2016 campaign is excellent

Paul Moore

France won’t be the same without us.

It’s fitting that Ireland’s campaign at Euro 2016 had more ups and downs that a fiddler’s elbow because the matches against Sweden, Belgium, Italy and France were definitely in keeping with our qualification campaign.

For example, Wes Hoolahan’s moment of magic against the Swedes was cancelled out by a cruel blow for Ciaran Clark. An excellent performance in Paris didn’t yield three points but that didn’t diminish the optimism of Irish fans ahead of the match against Belgium in Bordeuax. How wrong we were.

The depressing 3-0 defeat to the Belgians demanded a response and boy did we get one. It’s very likely that nothing else will compare to the sheer levels of euphoria that were created by Robbie Brady’s goal against the Italians.

The defeat to France in Lyon is still raw but this Irish team can definitely leave Euro 2016 with their heads held high. Recap some of their most memorable moments here.
