The Limerick man spoke to RTÉ earlier.

Paul O’Connell has announced his retirement from professional rugby following medical advice.

The former Munster and Ireland second row wasn’t able to recover sufficiently from the injury he picked up against France in the World Cup last year. He released this statement earlier.

RTÉ’s rugby correspondent Michael Corcoran sat down with O’Connell today to chat about his decision.

They discuss the injury, his recovery, the moment he knew he couldn’t go on, his relationship with Toulon and what he’s going to do next. Listen to it here.
