It will make for a great day out for Irish Liverpool fans.

Liverpool will take on Italian giants Napoli in a pre-season friendly at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin in August, almost a year to the day that they faced Athletic Bilbao at the same venue in 2017.

The fixture was revealed by Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis, who was speaking about the club’s pre-season plans for the 2018/19 season over the weekend.

“There won’t be any tournaments,” De Laurentiis told Corriere dello Sport.

“For now, we have organised a friendly with Liverpool in Dublin on 4 August.”

Prior to their Dublin visit, Liverpool will spend time preparing for the 2018/19 season in the United States after it emerged that the club will join the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich at the sixth annual International Champions Cup in July.

Venues and dates for that competition are set to be confirmed in the coming days.

JOE has contacted the FAI and the Aviva Stadium for confirmation of the fixture and is awaiting a response.
