Roberto Firmino was pulled over for drink driving in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Christmas Eve, police have confirmed.

The Brazilian will appear at Liverpool City Magistrates Court next month.

“Merseyside Police has charged a 25-year-old man with drink driving after his car was stopped in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Saturday, December 24 2016.

“Roberto Firmino, from Liverpool, will appear at Liverpool City Magistrates Court on January 31.”

The court appearance will take place on the same day that Liverpool face Chelsea at Anfield.

Firmino is part of the Liverpool squad for the clash against Stoke City on Tuesday.

The former Hoffenheim forward has scored 17 goals in 67 Liverpool appearances, forming a deadly partnership with his compatriot Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mané as the Reds have climbed to second in the Premier League, behind only Chelsea.
