Monaghan GAA club set up GoFundMe following sinkhole incident

The incident took place in September.

Chairman of Magheracloone Mitchells GAA club Francis Jones has said that the club will be out of their own grounds “for a number of years” following a sinkhole opening up on the pitch a number of weeks ago.

The incident caused the local school to close, with children being sent home immediately.

Since then, a GoFundMe was set up in an attempt to raise money for Magheracloone Mitchells GAA.

The goal of the GoFundMe is to help with sourcing and the setup of temporary facilities following the damage that was caused.

So far, the campaign has raised almost €8,000, which has already surpassed the €5,000 goal that they set themselves.

The GAA club posted a touching message as they urged people to donate to the cause, saying: “Due to the recent devastating mine collapse which has destroyed the Magheracloone GAA pitches and clubhouses we are looking to raise funds to ensure our Club survives this disaster.

“We all know that any football club is the backbone of the community and the foundation for many friendships. Funds will be required to source and setup temporary facilities. Please give a little or a lot.

“It takes a community to raise children.”
