This is very unexpected

This is very unexpected…

Former Manchester United star Andrei Kanchelskis is in the running to become the next manager of Derry City.

According to reports from the Irish Mirror, the Ukrainian applied for the vacant managerial role in Derry City yesterday following the sacking of manager Peter Hutton last month.

Kanchelskis boasts a number of managerial roles on his CV but none of them have been hugely successful with his most recent job with Latvian side FC Jurmala lasting just four months.

The flying winger played for United between 1991 and 1995 and was a firm favourite of the fans.

The 46-year-old is said to be interested in managing in England in the future and sees the Derry role as an ideal stepping stone for breaking his way into the Premier League.

We have to say that Kanchelskis name never came into our minds when we were debating who’d be Derry City’s next manager, mostly because it’s so damn difficult to spell.
