Manchester United tweet praise for Sam Byrne after his brace for Ireland’s U19s today

Young Dubliner, Sam Byrne scored both goals for Republic of Ireland under 19 team today against Romania in a 2-2 draw.

Last night at Aviva Stadium we despaired at Shane Long’s apparent profligacy in front of goal. We don’t make many chances. The chances we make need to be taken. Not to put too much pressure on the young United lad, but it’s refreshing to know that the future is not all grim.

Sam Byrne signed for Manchester United in 2011 from top Dublin schoolboy club, St Joseph’s Boys. He’s played for Ireland at all levels so far and is currently getting senior first-team experience from a loan spell at Carlisle United.

He joined them at the beginning of February and has scored one goal in six appearances so far. Manchester United have obviously been keeping an eye on him as we can see from this tweet from their official Twitter account today:
