Manchester United v Liverpool betting preview

Arsenal travel to Liverpool in Saturday’s early game in the Premier League, and the sensible money should go on a home victory for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Beleaguered Manchester United take on in-form Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday and we take a look at the betting market.

It’s a match that has all the credentials of a local derby. The two most successful clubs in England go toe-to-toe with a lot at stake. Old Trafford this season has not been the fortress it once was for United. They’ve lost four times at home already and Liverpool will fancy winning a league match there for the first time since 2009. You can get them to win at 9/5 with United coming in at 6/4. If you fancy the draw, the 12/5 bet looks like good value.

Despite the debacle in Greece against Olympiacos, United have found a bit of form domestically, but it’s Liverpool who are scoring for fun with chief protagonists, Sturridge and Suarez  at 11/2 and 5/1 respectively to be first goalscorer. Robin Van Persie endeared himself to the United faithful by declaring his love for the club and his wish to sign a new contract. What better way to cash in on the goodwill by scoring against your deadliest rivals? Van Persie is 5/1 to be first scorer here. Steven Gerrard has been in scoring form recently and has a great record against United. He looks great value at 11/1 to be first scorer.

United have been very slow starters in their matches this season and Liverpool, quite the opposite. The odds on Liverpool to lead at half-time with United coming back to win look tasty at 22/1. If you fancy United to fight back for the draw, you can get that at twelves.

The sides have met twice already this season with Liverpool winning 1-0 at Anfield and United winning by the same score in the Capital One Cup at Old Trafford. If you fancy another 1-0 scoreline, the United win would be at 9/1 and Liverpool at the slightly better 10/1.
