Marian Finucane wants to start a campaign to ban New Zealand’s Haka

Good luck with that

Broadcaster Marian Finucane may be a bit out of touch with the majority of sport fans here.

RTÉ Radio One presenter Finucane revealed how she finds the ritual ‘terrifying’ and it should be outlawed.

“We should start a campaign to stop this Haka. It’s very intimidating,” she said.

“At the risk of being racist, they’re like a bunch of tanks. They just wipe people to the left and to the right. Our poor lads who are going to have to deal with that.”

Needless to say, this was all before Argentina took care of that for their All Black brethren.

One of the panellists, and possibly the only reasonable person in the room, stressed that each country is entitled to practice its traditions.

“In all fairness, every country is entitled to its own rituals and its traditions. Just like we have the right to sing our anthem or whatever we want to do,” he said.

Marian, according to the Independent, was having none of it.

“Ah come on. It would make you run away it’s so terrifying.”

And to think Joe Schmidt considered using Marian off the bench against Argentina. She’d have been no use to us.
