Formula 1 commentator Martin Brundle has confirmed that he will join Sky Sports in 2012 as the face of a forthcoming dedicated F1 channel.

Brundle made the announcement on Twitter this morning, stating: “Can confirm I’ll be commentating on Sky Sports F1 in 2012. All races live on dedicated F1 channel + more tech features is what motivates me.

“I’ll be doing grid walks in the future of course, it’s my trademark. It’s not for me announce who else is working where from next season.”

Elaborating later this morning on the reasons for the move from the BBC to Sky, Brundle said that “The fact that their newly-announced and dedicated F1 channel will have no in-race advertising was a key factor, but most importantly I need to commentate on every race live. Recorded and delayed sports television doesn’t give me the adrenalin fix I crave.”

Launching in March 2012, the Sky Sports F1 HD channel will be part of the existing Sky Sports subscriber pack. Though Sky will show all 20 races of next season’s F1 calender live, the BBC have confirmed that they will only have the rights to ten races, with the remaining ten shown as highlights alter in the day.
