There will be a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland Final at Croke Park next weekend after Donegal were drawn to play Mayo in the All-Ireland Football quarter-finals.
After overcoming the challenge of Laois in Carrick on Shannon, Jim McGuinness’ side were drawn to face a side they defeated in the decider at Croke Park last September to win their first All-Ireland in 20 years.
Elsewhere, the favourites to win Sam Maguire this year, Dublin, will face a Cork side that scraped through to the last eight by the skin of their teeth after defeating Galway by a point. Ulster champions Monaghan will play provincial rivals Tyrone following the Red Handers victory over Meath, while Kerry will meet Cavan after the Breffni County overcame the challenge of London in the first of this afternoon’s qualifiers at headquarters.
The draw was made following all four games in the final round of the qualifiers today, with Cavan emerging comfortable winners over a London side that put up a very decent fight and were level at half-time, while Cork survived a huge scare from Galway but finished with a flourish to emerge as winners by a single point.
In Carrick on Shannon, Donegal recovered from the disappointment of last weekend’s Ulster Final defeat to defeat Laois with six points to spare, while Sean Cavanagh rolled back the years with a vintage performance to inspire Tyrone to a narrow victory over Meath.
The exact times and dates for the quarter-finals have not yet been decided upon, but they will take place on Saturday and Sunday at Croke Park next weekend.
Bring it on.
