Horan lashed out at the Rebels after yesterday’s win at Croke Park…

Mayo manager James Horan launched a scathing attack on Cork’s management after yesterday’s All-Ireland Quarter Final saying that the Rebels’ comments in the build up to the game were disgraceful.

In the lead-up to the game, Cork manager Brian Cuthbert described the Connacht champions as “streetwise” while his selector Ronan McCarthy named Cillian O’Connor and Kevin McLoughlin as two players who were “very good at tactical fouling”.

The comments hit a nerve with Horan who refused to shake Cuthbert’s hand at full time and spoke out against them in his post match media briefing,

“Our character was challenged in the lead-up to this game by the Cork management, which I think is unprecedented in gaelic football, where a management team name players and take the integrity of two of our players and of our team

“I think it’s disgraceful, and they should be ashamed of what they have done. Does that make victory sweeter for us? It probably does.”

Horan continued by saying, “I just think it’s a new low when you have opposition management naming specific players and taking their integrity and their good name.

“We coach and we try and play as well as we can all the time within the rules of the game, and to come out and say that is just not good enough at this level.”

Horan’s comments were put for Cork boss Cuthbert after the game to which he replied, “James is entitled to his opinion, and the best of luck to Mayo going forward.”
