PIC: A ‘F**k the Mayweathers’ sign has appeared alongside Ireland’s busiest dual carriageway

Subtle it most certainly is not.

Keep an eye out for message to the Mayweathers this if you’re cruising down the N11 this weekend.

Thousands of Irish people will be cheering on Conor McGregor when he takes on Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas in the early hours of Sunday morning, but public symbols of support haven’t exactly been plentiful in the run-up to the big fight.

If you’re still looking for somewhere to watch it, by the way, details of a limited number of places showing the fight in Dublin can be found here.

In fairness, you hardly expect to see flags flying outside houses like you would in a county ahead of a big GAA match, but you will see a not so subtle and rather profane message backing the Notorious if you happen to be on the N11 between now and Saturday night.

Late last night, as darkness descended on the Glen of the Downs in Wicklow, two men took a few buckets of paint and adorned a 10 foot wall overlooking the motorway with the message ‘Fuck the Mayweathers’  and an Irish flag in tribute to a line used by McGregor during the press tour last month.

One of the men responsible for the painting tells us that it took them approximately 45 minutes to finish the job and that when he went back to take a photo this morning, a significant number of cars acknowledged it with a beep of the horn on one of the busiest stretches of road in the country.

Whether Conor will get wind of it or not before the big fight remains to be seen, but something tells us it’s a phrase we’ll hear from him more than once before the weekend is out.
