Michael Lyster shows his composure during bizarre gaffe on Sunday Game last night

We’re going to miss Michael Lyster on our screens…

It’s a year on from when Jack McCaffrey stole the show at the Dublin winner’s banquet in the Gibson Hotel, and while he wasn’t solely responsible for it on Sunday night, he was once again involved.

Having been his usual rambunctious self on the pitch in the All-Ireland Final against Tyrone, McCaffrey earned the man of the match award for his energetic performance.

In what was Michael Lyster’s last time on TV presenting All-Ireland Sunday, the day had gone so well, but there was one final moment for the highlight reel still to come.

RTÉ had a small marquee set up on the balcony for Lyster and company at the team hotel, from which Lyster was presenting McCaffrey with his award.

The problem is, this is Ireland, and rain was always going to hit at some point and it had accumulated on the roof of the tent…

As someone rightly commented, if McCaffrey wasn’t being interviewed, then he would likely have been the prime suspect.

As it was, nobody got drenched (too badly) and it was a mark of Lyster’s professionalism that he managed to carry on basically unfazed by the bizarre turn of events.

Fair play Michael…
