Some of the biggest names in Irish MMA and beyond have thrown their weight behind a campaign to get highly-respected Irish fighter Neil Seery onto the card for a UFC Fight Night in London next month.

Late last night it was announced that Ian McCall had pulled out of his fight with Brad Pickett on the UFC Fight Night Gustafsson v Manuwa card set for March 8th, meaning that the main card, as it stands, is down to three fights.

As Pickett is a popular fighter in the UFC, and considering that he will be fighting in front of his own crowd, it would be a surprise if they don’t find another fighter to take the place of McCall and momentum is building behind a campaign to get Seery involved.

As MMA fans in these parts will know, Seery is a veteran of Irish MMA scene and is a name known to the UFC but his age (34) and record (13-9) have been held against him as reason for not getting the call up to the big show.

Since his debut in 2005 Neil has become one of the most well respected fighters in Europe due to his go forward, fight to the finish style. This has served him well since dropping to flyweight as he is 5-1 in the division and the Cage Warriors flyweight world champ.

Before dropping to flyweight Neil fought at bantamweight and featherweight just so he could get a fight which is where most of his losses were accrued. Also he often took fights injured, again so he could get a fight, not realising that his career would progress to the point where he’s now one the best fighters outside the UFC.

Since McCall’s withdrawal was confirmed last night, momentum has been building behind a campaign for Seery to be put on the card. Seery was trending in Ireland last night, while the likes of Cathal Pendred and Norman Parke also expressed their support on Twitter.

Conor McGregor and Aisling Daly, meanwhile, retweeted the following messages from their own account last night…
