Streaming services have given documentaries a new lease of life in recent years.

Previously fodder for arthouse cinemas and BBC4, Netflix productions like Making A Murder, Amanda Knox and Last Chance U have made documentaries one of the most popular genres of the moment.

And while true crime and American sports have been very interesting subjects, there could be films coming to streaming services on something you’re properly even more into: Premier League football.

According to Mail Online, both Netflix and Amazon are interested in making fly-on-the-wall documentaries about big English clubs. They have reportedly made approaches to Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea about filming behind the scenes.

There have been rumours about both services looking to get into sports – with Amazon already securing the tennis ATP World Tour from 2019 – and this could be the first rumblings of them eventually streaming live football.

There’s nothing confirmed yet, but a high quality documentary about the running of a top level side, both on and off the pitch, would be fascinating.

Liverpool of course did let Fox Sport’s cameras into Anfield in 2012, for the series Being: Liverpool that was broadcast on Channel 5.
