League of Ireland footballer delivers classic response to being sent off moments after coming on as sub
The red card may not have been something to laugh about, but this certainly was.
Wednesday night proved to be something of an eventful one for Shelbourne footballer Niall Lanigan.
He was a member of the Shelbourne squad that claimed their first Leinster Senior Cup title since 2010 with an extra-time victory over Dundalk at Oriel Park, but his own night didn’t go exactly as he would have planned it.
Having been brought on in the 113th minute, Lanigan was almost immediately dismissed for what the Shelbourne Twitter account described as a two-footed lunge on Dundalk’s Dean Watters.

The incident could have put something of a dampener on the occasion on what was a memorable night for the Drumcondra outfit, but Lanigan saw the funny side of it and went some way to redeeming himself, utilising a classic Internet meme to deliver a brilliant response on social media afterwards.
Well played.
