It will be the Poles who will play the Scottish champions in the next round after they beat the Irish title holders 5-0 on the night in Tallaght.

On a balmy night in Tallaght, it was St Pat’s who wilted under the intense pressure of Legia Warsaw to exit the Champions League qualification process.

Bringing a vital away goal into the second leg, the tie was finely poised at 1-1 in the home side’s favour but from the get go, the visitors looked like they meant business.

They dominated possession in the first half and eventually that monopoly paid off as Miroslav Radovic put Warsaw ahead in the tie for the first time after 25 minutes.

Liam Buckley replaced the ineffectual Chris Forrester with Mark Quigley at the break and the change did see Pat’s get more into the game initially after the restart.

Eventually though the Poles again took over and they looked the sharper side, always threatening to kill the tie with a second away goal. Sure enough, just as the game entered the final quarter, Henning Berg’s men did just that.

A fine run down the left wing by by Radovic was expertly finished by Zyro, meaning Pat’s would need to score three in a little over 20 minutes.

As Pat’s tired, Legia nabbed a third via Radovic and then a late fourth when a cross by Kosecki squirmed under the body of Clarke in goal and into the net. A final cruel blow on a tough night for Pat’s was an own goal via Conan Byrne’s head near the death.
