“We’ll see… “
Peter O’Mahony refused to steal the limelight on a fantastic night for his Ireland team. There has been growing speculation that the Munster back-row played his last home Test this evening, and it was a winning effort against Scotland.
Following his team’s 17-13 victory over Scotland, O’Mahony was asked if this was his final Test match. He was in tears during the Irish anthems, before the game, but was fully composed, and victorious, after the game.
“I don’t know it could be [my last Ireland game],” said O’Mahony. “It could be. I have a couple of big decisions to make over the next few weeks with my family. See how my body feels.
“I’m still loving it. I have a couple of important conversations to have. I’ll tell you what, if it is the last one, I’ll be a happy man.”

Peter O’Mahony was asked if this latest Six Nations win – his fifth as an Ireland players – was the most special, given he was captain, he replied, “They’ve all been special in their own right.
“To come back from defeat in World Cup and come back from last week, it shows the character in the group we have and I’m very grateful to have been a part of it.
“We’ve put in a lot of hard work this group, going back to the World Cup, it was tough but it galvanised us. Between our families, the staff, everyone is close. It’s a great group. Delighted we could show everyone the respect, and the jersey the respect and win today.”
Scotland captain Finn Russell, who was in a 2017 British & Irish Lions squad with O’Mahony, noted his many battles, for Glasgow and Scotland, with the Cork native. He commented:
“I played him a good few times… he’s a talisman for them. They’ve had Johnny and Paulie, lads like that in the past, and he’s another one. He’s a brilliant player and he deserves that win tonight.”
Later, when Peter O’Mahony was pressed on his future, in the press conference, he replied, “We’ll see
“I don’t know. I need to go talk to my wife and family and talk about it. I won’t be making any decisions in the next few days… I can hang the jersey in a good place if it was [my last game].”
