Will Galvin and Canavan be joining Niall Quinn in the Sky studio a little later this summer? We’ll just have to wait and see…

A report in the Irish Independent today suggests that the former Kerry and Tyrone stars are being lined-up for roles in Sky’s Gaelic Football coverage, while Rachel Wyse, a Sky employee who also has a column in the Irish Independent, will also be involved in some capacity.

The report about potential roles for Galvin and Canavan follows on from yesterday’s revelation in The Irish Examiner that Niall Quinn was the hot favourite to front coverage of the GAA on Sky, news that may not have been welcomed by those who aren’t exactly enamoured with what he brought to the broadcaster’s coverage of the Premier League in recent times.

If you were reading between the lines, the fact that Wyse writes a column for the Irish Independent could suggest that they might have a greater idea of the personalities who will eventually get the Sky gig, but Sky seem to be keeping the identity of the hosts and pundits under wraps for the time being at least.

They could do with getting a move on, however, as the first game they are due to cover – Kilkenny’s Leinster Championship clash with Offaly in Nowlan Park – takes place on June 7, less than a month from now.

If they’re looking for advice, of course, they could do worse than check out the make-up of JOE’s dream Sky Sports GAA panel; we’ve only covered the host for now but keep your eyes peeled for our dream punditry panels for both hurling and football over the next two days.
