It was during the French tour of New Zealand back in 1989 and although Schmidt scored a try, France ended up winning the match 28-23.
Schmidt, of course, will be hoping to mastermind a victory over the same opposition in Paris tomorrow in a game that has the whole country on a knife-edge. We don’t want to get too carried away, but already it seems as if there’s a feeling of destiny about it.
