We’re surprised that PSG didn’t pull out the ‘Oh yeah, well we’ve got loads more money than you’ line but surely it’s only a matter of time.
We’ve said it before and will no doubt say it again that football clubs have a lot to learn when it comes to social media etiquette and both Chelsea and PSG proved that yet again with a remarkable display of one-upmanship on their official Twitter accounts ahead of the Champions League quarter-final between the sides later this week.
It all started innocently enough when the official PSG account tagged Chelsea in a tweet revealing that this week’s game would be their second Champions League quarter-final, to which the Chelsea account replied with a boast about a potential seventh semi-final appearance in 11 seasons if they can get past PSG followed quickly by another one about their miserly defence keeping 11 clean sheets in 18 games in 2014.

PSG had the last word by bigging up the 22 goals they have scored in the competition this season before the ‘feud’, if you could even call it that, came to an end and entertaining though it was for everyone else, neither side comes out of the whole thing looking particularly well as it was all a bit petty and borne of a desire to earn a completely meaningless PR victory ahead of the big game.
That, or José Mourinho and Zlatan had briefly taken control of the respective accounts, but we’ll see who’ll do their talking on the pitch when it counts in Paris on Wednesday night.
