Pic: Home and Away star slags Roscommon and backs Mayo to go all the way this year

Summer Bay turns green and red

Be warned people, the Mayo for Sam bandwagon is up and running again.

There are many reasons for wanting Mayo to win an All-Ireland title.

It’s a football-mad county. They haven’t won one for 64 years. They’ve endured more heartbreak than probably any other county in the country.

And, most importantly of all, if they did win it, it might even put a stop to Mayo fans relentlessly seeking the endorsement of celebrities for an All-Ireland bid, a list of celebrities that includes Dave Grohl, Harry Redknapp, Morten Gamst Pedersen and even the bloody Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.

The stars of Home and Away haven’t been shy of showcasing their GAA credentials in the past and last night, on a visit to the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport, Steve Peacocke, aka Brax, lent his support to Mayo’s bid for Sam and got in a sly dig at Roscommon while he was at it.

Brax was also reported to have told those in attendance on the night that Aidan O’Shea’s switch to full-forward could be a major factor in Mayo’s bid for Sam this season; only time will tell if he’s proved right.

Hat-tip to Tommy Elliott for sending this one our way
