We might have to open a section just called ‘hockey players are tough b*stards’.
While fighting, sticks to the groin and a constant barrage of shoulder charges are all part of the job for an ice hockey player, one of the more dangerous aspects of the game is the stray skate. Every player is equipped with two razor sharp blades on their feet and if they slip and fall they can do serious damage to an innocent opponent.
That fate befell Montreal Canadiens forward Dale Weise on Saturday, as Toronto Maple Leafs’ Nazem Kadri’s skate accidentally slid into his face.
Luckily, Weise wasn’t seriously injured, but he did suffer a very nasty looking cut to his lip that required a fair few stitches.
