This is their Italia ’90 and we’re very jealous.
The undoubted fairytale story of this World Cup is Costa Rica. After being placed in a tough group with three World Cup winners (Italy, Uruguay and England) they only went and won it before squeezing past Greece in a penalty shoot out. The similarities to Ireland’s adventure in Italia ’90 are obvious.
Another similarity is how the fans back home are going batshit crazy for the team. Costa Rican player Joel Campbell posted this snap on Twitter showing the scale of the celebrations in the capital San Jose.

The entire Costa Rican population, also similar to ours at 4.8million, seems to be out celebrating here. Looks like San Jose is the place to be when they play Holland on Saturday night.
