They’re taking the boys in green to Isengard…or Glasgow

A good novelty flag is as much a part of the craic when going abroad for Irish away games as a few pints, watching the match in a heap of nerves and the obligatory “We all dream of a team of Gary Breens” singsong.

While we believe that the tricolour is already perfect as it is, there’s a certain charm to seeing the famous words of ‘Davy Keogh Says Hello’ or ‘Angela Merkel Thinks We’re At Work’ inscribed on the green, white and orange.

Much like the Eye of Sauron/Roy Keane, JOE has known all about the Lord of the Rings themed Shire Bar in Killarney and JOE reader Stephen O’Callaghan has sent in this image.

Here’s hoping that the Irish eleven elven give them a good reason to get legless Legolas against Scotland.

If you want to check out some even more examples of the tricolour being used to creative effect then this Conor McGregor/ Katie Taylor,  Roy Keane/ Robbie Savage or this effort from Euro 2012.
