Pic: Kilkenny fans won’t be happy with this cheeky sign on the Tipp border ahead of tomorrow night

Ahead of the biggest game in the history of the hurling qualifiers, some cheeky Tipp fans have been having some fun at Kilkenny’s expense before throw-in tomorrow evening.

We might only be in the first week of July, but it is really hard not to get up for the latest episode of the greatest hurling rivalry in recent years when Kilkenny host Tipperary in a winner-takes-all contest in Nowlan Park tomorrow evening.

There’s no doubt that the Cats have had the better of the rivalry over the last number of years and have come out on top in the two most recent meeting between the sides (this year’s National League Final and last year’s All-Ireland semi-final) but after a very underwhelming start to this year’s Championship by the All-Ireland champions, Tipp fans are scenting blood and would take great pleasure in dethroning the Cats in their own front lawn.

With that in mind, some mischievous Tipp fans erected the sign below on Fennor Hill, just outside Urlingford near the Tipperary border and the symbolic statement of their intent is there for all to see. Doyle’s, as we’ve subsequently been informed by John Lynch on Twitter, is the name of the undertakers in Urlingford.

Despite their uncharacteristically poor form of recent weeks, only a fool would write off Kilkenny at this early stage and we wouldn’t be surprised if there is revenge taken by Cats fans if the result goes their way tomorrow evening.

Either way, we can’t wait.

Hat-tip to Niall Minogue for sending this into us. Niall is now in with a shot of winning €250 by the end of the month.
