What a team.

He has a few very tricky selections to make in the coming weeks, but if Martin O’Neill’s all-time European XI is anything to go by, then we’ve nothing to worry about as far as Ireland’s squad for the Euros is concerned. UEFA this morning revealed the Ireland manager’s all-time Euro 11 selection and it’s one hell of a team, with a lovely mix of attacking flair and defensive solidity and representation from nearly every era of football over the last 40 years or so. If anything, one might worry about the lack of protection in midfield, but when you have a defence consisting of Beckenbauer, Maldini, Puyol and Thuram, then maybe you’ve nothing to worry about. With service from Xavi, Zidane and Platini, a front three of Muller, Van Basten and Ronaldo would be banging in the goals and Dino Zoff isn’t too bad at keeping them out either.
