It’s official.

The worst kept secret in football became a reality this morning with the official confirmation of Rafa Benitez as the new Real Madrid boss.

Benitez, the former Valencia, Liverpool, Inter Milan and Napoli manager, replaces Carlo Ancelotti who had the temerity to have a trophyless season after he had led Real to their record-breaking 10th Champions League success in the previous season.

Madrid-born and bred, Benitez has never hidden his desire to be manager of Los Blancos some day and today that dream has been realised.

The Real Madrid twitter account released the news of the new manager’s three year deal.
