Giancarlo Stanton is thankfully well on the road to recovery, but the picture of the damage the pitch did to his face initially is pretty shocking.

On Friday morning, we woke up to two fairly nasty baseball injury stories involving players taking a speeding baseball to the noggin. Now, one of the guys on the receiving end of a ball has posted a snap on Instagram showing how well he is recovering, as well as reminding us just what sort of damage a fastball to the face can do.

Miami Marlins player Giancarlo Stanton took this blow on Thursday night against the Brewers.

Stanton was knocked out and it was reported he had also sustained multiple lacerations to his face as well as damage to his teeth and facial fractures. Lovely.

This afternoon he has posted an update on his Instagram account and while we are pleased to see how well he looks in the new snap on the right, the image of what he looked like when he arrived in hospital shows the danger any one who steps up to the plate faces.

The other victim of a shot to the face on Thursday, Chase Headley, hopes to be back in action with the Yankees this week.
